5 Reasons you NEED to use more video in your social media marketing

In case you have been living under a rock this past year, video content is having a major moment on social media right now. Think YouTube, TikTok & Instagram Reels, all of which have grown massively in popularity recently. With videos encouraging more engagement and producing more conversions than any other type of content, it’s a no brainer that video should be part of your education brand’s social media marketing strategy. Still need convincing? Here are our top 5 reasons you NEED to use more video in social your media marketing:

  1. Instagram’s CEO’s announcement

If there was ever someone you should listen to about how to succeed on Instagram, wouldn’t it be the top dog himself? We think so! Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s CEO, recently announced that they were “no longer a photo-sharing platform” and that their focus would be towards video content as it was driving “immense growth” online at present. While photos and still graphics will still have their place, prioritising video content is key to growing and getting the most out of your social media presence.

2. Increasing reach

Instagram users from all sectors are reporting a huge increase in the reach they are seeing since they have started creating reels on Instagram. Many users are seeing massive growth in their accounts too, with followers who are interested in their content and more importantly, engaging with it! Instagram has made reels front and centre of their discovery page, home screen and is pushing reels out to users regardless of whether they follow you or not. This means with the right strategy and messaging in place, your chances of being seen by a much wider audience with a reel increase massively in comparison to a traditional image post.

3. Engagement

Followers are great but engaged followers are what we really want! Using video content as part of your marketing strategy allows you to tell your brand story in a more engaging and relatable way than with a single image. Video content is proven to be more engaging and relatable to all audiences encouraging responses in the form of likes, shares & comments. Using video content effectively and in line with a planned strategy, encourages engagement from all audience segments (current & prospective students, parents & alumni).

4. Attention grabbing

Research shows that people are over 27% more likely to click on a video ad than they are a static banner ad. Why? Well, our eyes are naturally drawn to movement meaning video content grabs attention and draws us in. The secret is to “hook” people in within the first few seconds by giving viewers key indicators about what to expect to avoid them scrolling by.

5. Add a little humanity & humour to your brand

Video content gives an opportunity to have a little fun & communicate your key messages & values in your brand voice in a way that images and graphics cannot do. Videos evoke emotions and help to humanise your brand making you more relatable and are a great way to connect with your audience & build a like-minded community in a fun and entertaining way.

In short, video content is where it’s at and we are here for it! We think the introduction of TikTok & Reels is just the start and more video focused updates on social media platforms are inevitable.
